New World map of online communities

May 2, 2007 · 3 Comments

XKCD.com has a great parchment-style map of “online communities and related points of interest: geographic area represents estimated size of membership.” Of course, The Blog is already on an expedition to claim a stake of land in the bustling “Blogipeligo.”

What an antique way to look at the brand new world. I love it!

Plus I see a little island down there that looks like the perfect spot for The Blog. I can smell the sand and tropical beverages now …

Ha! Matt, ya beat me to it! I was coming in here to say, “OK, looks like the Update Blog has an island available for it!”

I do love that Wikipedia Project portion, though. Really, really clever.

My favorite part is “Google’s Volcano Fortress,” way down there in the IRC Isles. Also, “The Wet Sea” is just funny.
